(for CPS and CAP holders and approved candidates)

The 2005 Certification Seminar was held October 16-19, at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay in Cambridge MD. Creating Calm out of Chaos was the theme, with educational sessions on: conquering clutter, streamlining chaos, generational diversity, valuing diversity in the workplace, and doing the right thing in the midst of chaos.

The 2006 Certification Seminar will be held October 15-18, at the Marriott Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage CA. The IAAP room rate is $169, single or double. The theme will center on Advanced Organizational Management. Watch for additional information in early 2006 on the IAAP website (www.iaap-hq.org) under "Events & Conferences."

The 2007 Certification Seminar will be held October 14-17, at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio in San Antonio TX. The room rate is $175 single/$180 double.

Another benefit of certification is the opportunity to join The Academy. The Academy is similar to a college/university alumni association. To belong to The Academy an individual must hold an active CPS or CAP rating. Annual dues are $15 for IAAP members and $30 for nonmembers.

Membership benefits include receiving the Academy News, published electronically four times per year and only available to active Academy members, a special reception at the annual Certification Seminar and a recognition ribbon at the International Convention & Education Forum.

Articles in the Academy News provide tips on gaining required recertification points, information on obtaining college credit for the rating, steps to take in gaining corporate support of the CPS and/or CAP ratings, how achieving the rating has enhanced careers, etc.

As the Certification Chair for your Division or Chapter, make sure your certified members are aware of The Academy, IAAP's own "alumni association." What a great way to support the professional rating they have worked so hard to gain.

The Academy enrollment form can be found on the IAAP website (www.iaap-hq.org) under "Professional Certification" and then "Academy," or can be obtained from the Certification Department (e-mail certification@iaap-hq.org).

CPS and CAP holders are required to recertify every five years. Those who do not remain current through recertification have their rating marked inactive on the IAAP database and are no longer afforded the privileges of certification.

To assist members and guests in attaining these needed points, be sure your program chairman requests recertification points for your chapter and division educational programs. The educational programs (business meetings are not eligible for recertification points) must be at least one hour in length and must cover topics relevant to the exam outline.

Details on requesting recertification points for chapter and division educational programs can be found at www.iaap-hq.org/Cert/recertification_prog_app_dir.htm. Please submit the request four weeks prior to the program.
